Snowboarding in Urasa

snowboard japan urasa iujBusy busy days in IUJ! Ok IUJ coursework always keeps us busy anyway but last week was just… ouch! Multiple assignments / homeworks, quizzes every day, Japanese still there. Somehow I am still alive :) . So this post is about my first time snowboarding – in Japan – and same resort as last time, the worldwide famous 浦佐スキー場. 3 runs at max, no big difficulties. Basically a decent place for beginners, who also have $$$ in mind. The weather was ok, sometimes sunny sometimes cloudy, but still enough to snowboard without goggles (which I don’t own anyway). The video of the day should land on the blog pretty soon.

empty ski runs

Again this time, the ski resort was pretty quiet (apart from the Japanese music that you hear going up on the lift). This time, the ski resort was completely empty from 11am til 1pm! No pressure, no people, no kids to bother you, and you can actually fall without anyone but friends noticing. Snow was fresh even though now after 2 weeks without snow it might be a problem.

Fully equipped we were ready to go down… Urasa’s resort has no real snowboard facilities like rails, halfpipes or kickers, but one can still have fun.

Place was so quiet you could even check your emails in the middle of the lift arrivals!!!

Now it is time for me to introduce a special guest: Ryosuke-san or, as he should be renamed, Marty McFly. He has a special snowboard, because it also has an “hoverboard” mode. It litterally flies 1 foot over the snow. You don’t believe me? Check it out:

Pretty amazing, huh? Thanks to Wade and his sugoi camera, we tried to take cool pictures, even though we were very bad snowboarders:

On this one I almost hit Wade… In fact I landed on the edge of his skis!

my best shot

And certainly my best shot. And no I didn’t crash on the landing :p (at least not on that one).

Great day overall.

P.S.: The Facebook video is just there while I’m uploading it on youtube so everybody can see it…
