These are two songs that have been for a while in my winamp playlist. Not that amazing, but that sticks in your head and soon you become obsessed…

It quickly becomes annoying.

My favorite.

Remix is far better than original, but that’s not the true reason why you listen to the music. You listen to this because you have watched the clip at least once.

Apparently a big hit in 2008, I am listening a lot to this one atm… Wait Universal disactivated embedding for this videoclip… Ok found another one. Wait it seems it’s from a drama, Rookies (and a manga I think). Looks cool, maybe I should give it a go.

I’m not dead. Just having terrible computer issues. All my hard drives are down, including the system drive. My dvd player is not recognized by the gios… S I have been trying for the past few days to boot from a usb pen drive, without a success so far. Good thing is I should be back “online” by the end of Golden Week. Bad thing, I’ve lost everything: emails, pictures, videos, movies, software, music… Ok, back to trying to install xp.

I was talking about it a few weeks ago, and as you might have noticed, I’ve finally made the decision in favor of WordPress, since I found a nice free template for WordPress. Potentially WordPress might have less possibilities than Joomla, but for blogging it is more than enough. The backend is very clear and simple to use. Transition from Joomla 1.0.x was in fact much easier than expected. The import tool for WordPress worked flawlessly, it took 30s to import all my joomla posts.

If I had to compare, the actual writing part is about the same on Joomla and WordPress, but as I said earlier, backend is clearer, and as WordPress is in my opinion much more popular than Joomla for blogging, the community is much more active, it’s very easy to find extensions.

Some stuff are still not working on the website, like the “Subscribe by Email” part.

There is a new gallery, using picsengine. Best gallery I’ve used so far, maybe it is just missing a WordPress plugin =D .

Since I’ve moved to WordPress, I keep trying to post every day. Before it used to be a pain in the a** but actually now it’s not much of a big deal. As long as I still have ideas about what to blog about, I believe I can keep up.

The Carpenters. Never heard of them before coming to Japan. I had already heard some of their “hits” though. Their music aged badly, it sounds old and it actually is. Almost 40 years-old. Don’t get me wrong, the music is nice but…

Ok. Get into the mood, click on the link:

The Carpenters

Now imagine you are in a cafeteria, poorly decorated, old chairs, yellow light, and very few people inside. You feel like you are in the 70s. But no you are in 2009. And in Japan. And in my university.

For almost 6 months every night, speakers of the shokudo played The Carpenters, and only the Carpenters. Maybe they had only the “Greatest Hits of The Carpenters” CD, I don’t know. At first, this is fun. After a month, it becomes depressing. We students guessed it was maybe the chef’s favorite band.

But things become more bizarre when you go to the dental clinic, and what are they playing?? The Carpenters of course… A global conspiration? Japanese love for the Carpenters?

Google Japan returns 8 million links for 50 cent, 582 000 for Green Day and 319 000 for The Carpenters, so popularity might not be so huge after all, at least on the Internet (I guess the hardcord fans might be a bit old for internet now :p ).

All I can say is, now, wherever I go, I get a strange feeling when I hear the Carpenters… The music sounds like these old songs in horror movies…

Last but not least, the mega-bonus for the Carpenters fans, The Carpenters singing their hit “Sing” in Japanese:

Vacation time is now over, and the spring term is about to begin. I went to Tokyo for five days, I will post about it later this week-end if I have time. Take it for granted, the webiste is going to change pretty soon. In fact, the only thing preventing me to switch now is that I have not found a template that like yet. However, some things have already started to change: there is now a new gallery (visit it with the “Photos ” link at the top of this page. The reasons why I did that? Well first one, I like this gallery, its easy to navigate inside, it adapts to your screen resolution, … But the true reason is, I wanted to get rid of FlickR. FlickR is good, but the 200 pictures limit on space was a pain in the ass for me. I looked for other solutions, Picasa was considered, but since my server has a 50GB capacity, I thought, hey, maybe I should use it… I have uploaded new pictures, like the panoramas album.
